Hybrid modelling method for the prediction and experimental validation of 3D printing resource consumption

In this study, a hybrid modelling scheme for 3D Printing (3DP) technology is proposed predicting three resource consumption processes: production time, electric energy and material usage. First, the manufacturing process classified into five machine operations: axial moving, processing, unit heating, feeding auxiliary. Then, according to behaviours, Gantt chart power profile (GP) diagram generated understanding operation processes variations. Based on GP diagram, physical models data-driven are created simulating level of each operation. The time consumed during part printing physically modelled based computer numerical control (CNC) language: G-code. while preheating units through experimental measurements under different related parameter values. collected data regressed obtain functional relationships between power, parameters. With submodels all operations, 3DP assembled. To verify effectiveness method, prediction demonstrated two fused deposition (FDM) machines, accuracies tested real tasks. method can be adopted other additive by comprehensively considering factors, including geometries, parameters, G-codes behaviours.
